.co.in is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) representing India. It is administered by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI).
Eligibility Requirements
- .co.in domains can be registered by Indian citizens, companies, and trademarks.
- For individuals, valid Indian ID like Aadhaar card or passport is required.
- Businesses need a copy of company incorporation documents or GST certificate.
Registration Rules and Restrictions
- Domain names must be between 3 to 63 characters in length.
- Allowed characters include:
- Alphabets (a-z)
- Numbers (0-9)
- Hyphen (-)
- Hyphens cannot be used as the first or last character.
- Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) are allowed.
Domain Length and Pricing
- 1-5 character domains are classified as premium and have higher pricing.
- 6-63 character domains follow standard wholesale pricing.
- Pricing may also vary based on desired extension like .co.in, .net.in, .org.in etc.
Registration and Renewal Cycle
- Initial domain registration period is 1-10 years.
- Subsequently, renewals can be done annually.
- A 45-day grace period is provided after expiration to renew a domain.
Managing and Transferring Domains
- Registrar transfers are allowed after 60 days from initial creation.
- An authorization code from current registrar is required for transfers.
- Nameservers, registrant and contacts can be updated after transfers.
Nameserver Requirements
- 2-6 nameservers can be configured per domain.
- Only IPv4 addresses are supported currently.
